Locks of Love (Labor Day weekend)

Above: The weekend before I cut all my hair off!!! Long and blondish/brown.....

Good Morning to everyone!I just wanted to share my new news and hair style with you all. I decided back earlier in the summer to give to Locks of Love; the main office is in West Palm Beach, FL. I called the office to inquire about the requirements for donating. They are very particular about donated hair with color and highlights, and considering I've had both done, I needed to double check everything before cutting the minimum of 10 inches off my hair! After researching the project and having my hair evaluated, I was able to become a donor. I found out a few weeks ago there was a brother and sister who live in my area and have been waiting on one final donor for 3 months. (For those of you that don't know, it takes 6 donors to complete one head piece for a child). I quickly asked to be marked as their final donor. Both children have leukemia and lost their hair about 6 months ago due to treatments. My father's mother died of leukemia when I was 6 years old, so I was able to do this in her memory. Her name along with mine will be placed at the Locks of Love office in West Palm Beach, FL in the spring. I had 12 inches taken off the length of my hair to be able to give to both children. The little girl needed 8 inches to cover the back of her hair piece and 4 inches went to the little boy for the front of his hair piece.Attached is the new look! It's been colored back to my natural roots and is shorter than it ever has been since I was a BABY! It's a very different look and feeling to not have that mane of hair hanging down my back! But, it's very rewarding to me to be able to give to two individuals who cannot grow their own hair and make a difference in their lives.Hope everyone is doing well and please keep in touch!

God Bless,
Mandi

After: The dark, short look!!!!

Most of you knew I did this, but for those who didn't, just wanted to share the story!!

I have recieved a Christmas card from the children who have my hair, they are just precious. They brought tears to my eyes. There are days I miss my long hair and wish I was back to that blonde college girl, but I then remember those two little children's faces and how happy they are to finally have hair and all those thoughts erase.

Many ask if I will keep it short or grow it back out... I haven't decided yet.. If I let it grow back out I will just cut it all off again! As for the color..who knows..I change it every time I go home!
