Once I took my new job here in B’ham, I kept it a secret for a bit at the office. I had a major donor event in 2 weeks that I needed to get through before making the announcement I was leaving after 4 years. I called each of my closest friends individually; they all knew it was coming sooner or later as I had openly shared my unhappiness in my job. Some were harder than others; lots of tears were shared as well as good obnoxious stories. I made the most of my last month in Tampa Bay; between spring training baseball, hockey games, concerts, beach time, opening day, dinner and wine nights out, I lived it up till the very end. I wouldn’t trade any memory in TB.
My last day at USF was honestly one of the toughest days I’ve had to deal with professionally; not only was I living a very comfortable job w/ a few great colleagues but my step-grandmother had just passed away also. It was any minute any day type of call I was waiting on for months. But it didn’t make that particular day any easier. My heart was so heavy that Friday; I could go without rehashing that day. But that night was special w/ two of my favorite FL ladies at the hockey game. I cried leaving the arena as I knew it would be my last as a TB resident. The team ended up knee deep in the playoffs and I hated to miss them being up here in B’ham, but I watched every single one of them. If you haven’t ventured off to NHL game, treat yourself. I have special friends at the team that I miss very much also.
My last weekend in TB was a blast, hockey game, charity run, beach, parents came, good dinner places, sunsets all crammed in the weekend. The movers came on Tuesday morning to move all my crap out and let me tell you a funny story. I argued with my daddy over the size of the uhaul for days. We won. With a family size. I somehow single handily filled up a family size uhaul! Not sure how I have so much stuff. It is what it is. The four movers were in shock it was just my stuff as they packed the truck for us. Daddy drove it back to Starkville, MS to unload a few things. I stayed behind for a few more days to enjoy TB baseball and gf birthday.
Pamela was kind enough to ride to B’ham with me; mama bought her a flight back to FL. We left TB about 10:30pm with a 7.5/8 hour drive ahead of us…
